Hon. Namara Dennis has made a strong impact in improving the lives of communities across Uganda and East Africa through his leadership in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA). During the COVID-19 pandemic, he played an important role in overseeing and assessing the challenges faced by women involved in cross-border trade, many of whom depended on small businesses to support their families.
Through meetings with women traders, business groups and border communities across East Africa, Hon. Namara Dennis helped bring attention to the serious problems caused by the pandemic. These included loss of jobs, closure of businesses, lack of capital, increased transport costs, loss of goods, high loan interest rates and rising poverty among women and families.
He supported efforts to promote fair trade policies, harmonized border operations and better cooperation among East African countries to reduce delays and improve movement of goods and services. He also advocated for special recovery programs, affordable loans and financial support for women traders and small businesses that were heavily affected by lockdowns and border closures.
Hon. Namara Dennis further supported initiatives aimed at empowering women through training in online business, digital marketing and financial management so they could continue trading even during difficult times. His work also encouraged governments and financial institutions to create better opportunities for women entrepreneurs and informal traders.
Through his leadership, many communities gained hope and a stronger voice in regional decision-making. His commitment to economic empowerment, regional integration and community development continues to inspire many young people, women and business owners across Buyaga West County and the wider East African region.
